The 4×4 technique is how I fall asleep 💤

Sometimes I’ll get in bed early but won’t fall asleep soon enough. So I grab my phone and read a blog or ebook, hoping I’ll get drowsy while my mind is occupied.

When reading doesn’t help, the next thing I know, I’m watching an episode of Star Trek.

Sometimes I’ll try the Calm or Headspace apps.

But when all else fails, it’s the 4×4 technique that saves the night.

How to fall asleep fast:

  1. Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds.
  2. Hold your breath for 4 seconds.
  3. Breathe out through your mouth for 4 seconds.
  4. Do this 4 times.

It can be difficult to concentrate and believe it works. In the moment, it seems like a futile task.

But it does work more often than not. I think to myself, “try it, just do it and see it through; what do you have to lose?”
